Two types of occupations are super busy during tax season: accountants and scammers.
Scammers have all kinds of ways they try to get your Social Security Number so they can file phony tax returns to try and steal your refund. One scheme scammers use is acting like accountants! Before you give your personal information to someone to help you with your taxes make sure they are credible!
Watch out for wild promises. If a potential tax preparer promises you larger refunds than anybody else you’ve talked to has, that’s a red flag
Check their qualifications. If you’re hiring a tax preparer you can look up their credentials on file with the IRS or ask your local Better Business Bureau about their background
Make sure the bank account information on your return is accurate. Scam accountants will route the returns into their bank account, not yours!
