As cases of the Omicron variant continue to rise in the Bay Area, Sonoma County Health officials are now recommending that people voluntarily shelter-in-place at home for the next 30 days. The recommendation comes as a possible way to prevent the further spread of covid-19. As of right now the shelter in place recommendation is just that, only a recommendation. Residents are not being ordered to shelter in place but the county issued an appeal that they stay home as much as possible.

Sonoma County is also banning large gatherings. This means anything over 50 people indoors or 100 outdoors is not permitted. The ban goes into effect at 12:01 a.m. Wednesday and will be in place until Feb. 11.
