The pandemic definitely affected the livelihoods of several Californians. Yesterday Governor Gavin Newsom announced that the state is going to help people get back on their feet by taking care of past due rent that was unpaid due to job loss or hardships during the pandemic. Federal eviction protections expire at the end of the month so this is the state's last-ditch effort to help people stay in their homes. The state will use the $5.2 billion in funds from Congressionally-approved aid packages to help struggling landlords and tenants to pay off overdue rent.
