Gov. Gavin Newsom is cracking down on California when it comes to the spread of COVID-19. "If we don't act now, our hospital system will be overwhelmed," Newsom said Thursday in his daily press conference. The Gov. will divide the state into 5 different regions and will shut them down accordingly based on the number of cases as well as hospital beds available in a particular geographical location. If ICU bed capacity drops below 15% then a regional (not county) shutdown order will be given. The five regions are the Bay Area; Southern California; Greater Sacramento; San Joaquin Valley; and Northern California
The lockdowns would last for a minimum of three weeks. If your area is on lockdown it means that gatherings are not permitted, and playgrounds, salons and restaurant dining would have to close. Stores will be allowed to remain open at 20% capacity. Religious services will be allowed outdoors only. Food takeout would still be allowed.
As of right now no region has been issued a stay at home order, however given the rapid spread hospital capacity is expected to drop below the threshold as early as next week. Fingers crossed it doesn't come to that in the Bay Area.
