I have seen a lot of people driving alone wearing masks but now police are issuing a warning against doing that. A New Jersey man passed out and crashed into a telephone pole this week, and police believe the accident could have been avoided if he hadn’t worn an N95 mask while driving. The man was taken to the hospital and treated for his injuries and he is expected to make a full recovery. According to the Lincoln Park Police Department, wearing an N95 mask too long can cause someone to inadvertently restrict their oxygen — which is what they believed happened.
Masks are necessary in public spaces to avoid the spread of COVID-19, however this is only in spaces where you are going to be in contact with others. If you are driving alone then it is o.k. to slide it off, it could help you breath easier as well as save your life. It is also recommended that the public stick to wearing face coverings and leave the N95 medical grade masks for health professionals.
