Michael Stipe Has An Odd Choice To Play Him In A Biopic

Michael Stipe has always looked at things a little differently from most people. The frontman for R.E.M. visited with Stephen Colbert on "The Late Show" last week to talk about a wide range of subjects, one of which was the trend of musicians of a certain age to find themselves the subject of a biopic. Colbert asked the singer if he had any ideas on who should play him if a biopic were to be made; the host suggested comedian David Cross (due to both having bushy grey beards), an audience member shouted out J.K. Simmons, but Stipe went in a different direction. “Maybe Billie Eilish could do it,” Stipe suggested. "She’d be good, kinda got similar eyes," Colbert said. When Colbert asked if the singer had ever met Eilish, Stipe recalled that she once held a door open for him at a restaurant in Manhattan. "I don’t know if she knew who I was; she’s incredibly polite and sweet," he said. Stipe did add that, to the best of his knowledge, no R.E.M. biopic was under consideration.

Dave Grohl Makes Emotional Confession on Cheating Scandal Influenced New Foo Fighters Song

Foo Fighters frontman Dave Grohl recently opened up about how his personal struggles influenced the band’s new music, specifically addressing the emotional meaning behind their song “Unconditional” in an interview with BBC. Grohl discussed how the track from the album “Your Favourite Toy” relates to his recent adultery scandal, admitting to fathering a child outside his marriage in 2024. Reflecting on the healing power of music during difficult times, Grohl shared that the band has always relied on music to help them through challenges. The release of their 12th studio album showcases the band's ability to channel pain into powerful music, with tracks like “Child Actor” exploring the toll of fame on youth. This album release marks another chapter in their evolution as artists who use music to navigate life's most difficult moments.

ROLLING STONES: Now For the Album Teasers

After teasing the release of their new song, "Rough and Twisted," with posters in and around London, The Rolling Stones are now teasing their new album, Foreign Tongues, which is a lyric from the song -- “Why don’t you teach me/ Teach me all those foreign tongues?” This time it's in the form of billboards from around the world with the title in the language of each country. And, instead of hiding behind their alias, The Cockroaches, which was the case with the song, they're front and center with the album, even posting photos of the billboards on their socials.

And, in addition to the billboards, there are quotes on their social pages from Mick Jagger, Keith Richards and Ronnie Wood. They are as follows:

Mick: "It’s one of those that can creep up on you, and you get so excited doing it.”

Keith: "Great fun though huh? A good rhythm section, a couple of mates, where else can you go...?"

Ronnie: "I've got so many riffs in my head I can't go to sleep until 4 in the morning." And, his post is captioned, "Eyes down for a full house..."

So, the announcement of the album is imminent, and, like their last one, Hackney Diamonds, released in 2023, Foreign Tongues has also been produced by Andrew Watt.

JOURNEY: Which Band Member Is Crying Now?

The three principal members of Journey -- guitarist Neal Schon, keyboardist Jonathan Cain and singer Arnel Pineda -- just can't seem to stop airing their dirty laundry in public or saying something that makes their fans question what they're even talking about. The latest example is a rambling message on Facebook from Pineda in which he apologizes, seemingly to music journalists, for not doing many interviews, perhaps after saying too much in a recent one with

Rolling Stone. He writes, "I just wanna take the time to apologize to everyone who’s attempted to reach out and secure an interview with me over the years…me being aloof wasn’t intentional nor a disrespect, it's just that there’s nothing much to tell much.

"ONE OF THE GREATEST OPPORTUNITIES in my life occurred when Neal Schon asked me to be part of a LEGACY that’s touched millions of lives all over America and around the world. And as scared as I was from the start 'til now (believe it or not) I did what’s been asked of me on behalf of the band’s LEGACY [through] lots of mishaps, stumblings, shameful moments, gigantic self-doubt, imperfections and before we all knew it, 18 and a half years has passed. So that’s all there is.

"Other details or behind-the-scenes incidents and moments are all but a blur while chasing the shadows of greatness I’ll never be able to catch nor achieve (at least to my belief).

"And yet, to the believers, thank you.

"To the non-believers, thank you still.

"To the purist who’s consistently dismissed me, I understand and thank you too…

"To the people I have made an honest and sincere connection with (some of them eventually led to a lasting friendship), thank you…

"For now, the story will go on, and who knows when it’ll stop.

"THY WILL BE DONE (I whisper those words all the time to myself).

"Again, THANK YOU and I just wanna urge your respect to my privacy as I navigate a new chapter in my life that’s still kind of scary because for me it's unknown and I won’t reveal much of what I’m expecting it to be...the mystery of living a life in this world we are all in.

"Well, I’ll keep chasing." So, Pineda is either talking about currently dealing with a nasty divorce or his life after the band reportedly hangs it up next year -- or he's reaching out for help.

In other Journey news, Neal Schon, on behalf of the band, has apologized for having to cancel their show Sunday at the Stagecoach festival in Indio, California. He says, "We were truly looking forward to performing for you. The decision to evacuate and cancel the show was not made by us. It was issued and communicated to our team during the emergency situation," which were high winds. He goes onto say that "the safety of our fans, crew, and everyone on site had to come first. "We’re deeply sorry we couldn’t take the stage and share that moment with you. We appreciate your support, patience, and the incredible energy you bring every night." Journey's Final Frontier tour now moves to Las Vegas on Wednesday.

METALLICA: Pay Tribute to Conductor Tilson Thomas

Metallica have posted a lengthy tribute to composer and San Francisco Symphony conductor Michael Tilson Thomas, who passed away Wednesday at age 81. Tilson Thomas, who won 12 Grammys and was among the Kennedy Center Honors recipients in 2019, conducted the Symphony when they collaborated with Metallica on the S&M2 shows in 2019. (The San Francisco Symphony also recorded the original S&M album with Metallica in 1999, but those shows were conducted by the late Michal Kamen.)

The band posted on their social media, "MTT was more than a conductor; an accomplished pianist and composer, he served as the San Francisco Symphony’s musical director for 25 years. During his time with the orchestra, he brought innovation, experimentation, and community engagement to San Francisco. He fostered contemporary music by forming relationships with living composers and creating fresh accounts of standard repertory..."

"We cherished our time with MTT and learned so much working with him to prepare the S&M2 performances; it was a very high honor to have him on the podium for our shows. He will be sorely missed." Metallica released an album of the S&M2 shows in 2020.

BRUCE SPRINGSTEEN: He's Not an Extremist

Bruce Springsteen may be outspoken about President Trump and his administration, but he doesn't wish him or anyone else harm. Opening his show Sunday in Austin, Texas, he

addressed the assassination attempt Saturday night at the White House Correspondents' Dinner at the Hilton in Washington, D.C. "We begin tonight with a prayer for our men and women in service overseas. We pray for their safety tonight. We also send out a prayer of thanks that our President, nor anyone in the administration, nor anyone attending, was injured in last night's incident at the press Correspondents' Dinner. We can disagree. We can be critical of those in power, and we can peacefully fight for our beliefs, but there is no place in any way, shape, or form for political violence of any kind in our beloved United States."

Of course, from there it was business as usual as the goal of his Land of Hope and Dreams tour is a "celebration and defense of American ideals." The next stop is Wednesday in Chicago.

Lindsey Buckingham has posted another video on Instagram, this one in which he talks about continuing to make new music. He says, “The thing about new music or about continuing to make any music at all is that you are again presented with a choice. Do you follow your instincts? Do you follow your gut? Do you follow your vision? Do you take risks? Or do you find yourself somewhat caught in repeating formulas or concepts of yourself that have been defined externally for you? … When I contemplate the idea of continuing to write new music and to make new albums, it’s in pursuit of and because of the religion (and not the commerce).” Buckingham has been working on a new album for the past few years.

Tom Morello is one of the creators of a new comic book mini-series called Leviathan Freedom that will be released this summer. The comic is based on the life of Robert Smalls, a man born into slavery who commandeered a Confederate warship and sailed himself and others to freedom.

Former KISS and Grand Funk Railroad guitarist Bruce Kulick recently underwent heart valve replacement surgery, which he says was “a success! On the road to recovery, taking it one step at a time. Grateful for my heart surgeon and his staff. And special thanks to [my wife] Lisa for her love and support.” Gene Simmons sent a note of support saying,”Go Bruce, Go. With Lisa by your side, you can lick anything. You know we’re all rooting for you. And can’t wait for you and Lisa to cook up a new batch of pancakes for all of us.” Kulick is one of the guests at the second annual KISS Kruise – Landlocked in Vegas, November 13th to the 15th at Virgin Hotels Las Vegas.

Goo Goo Dolls will release a 20th anniversary edition of Let Love In on July 24th. The original album will be reissued on red vinyl and as a two CD set that adds a live performance of the album from Capitol Studios in Los Angeles.
