The Pointer Sisters rose to international fame as one of the most successful and versatile female groups in pop music history. After beginning their musical journey singing in their father’s church in Oakland, California, the sisters broke through in the 1970s with hits like “Yes We Can Can” and the Grammy-winning “Fairytale,” becoming the first Black female group to perform at the Grand Ole Opry. Throughout the decade and into the ’80s, they continued evolving their sound from country and R&B to pop and rock, earning widespread acclaim for chart-topping hits including “Fire,” “He’s So Shy,” and “Slow Hand.”
