KC Chiefs' Sean Culkin to be Paid with Bitcoin
Kansas City Chiefs player Sean Culkin has scored an NFL first -- and it has nothing to do with his on-field performance. The tight end has become the first player in league history to take his entire salary -- about $920,000 -- in bitcoin. “I fully believe Bitcoin is the future of finance,” Culkin says. "I wanted to prove that I have real skin in the game — not just trying to make a quick buck."
Although offensive tackle Russell Okung also gets paid with bitcoin, he receives just half of his salary in the virtual currency; the other half is old-fashioned money, according to Yahoo! Sports. Is this a smart move? Do you think paper currency is on its way out?
