Good news for haters of robocalls! The US Supreme Court has upheld a ban on robocalls to cell phones.
The decision Monday upheld a 1991 law. It was only challenged after Congress, in 2015, carved out an exception for automated calls from the fed for the purpose of collecting government debt.
Opponents argued the exception made the entire law unconstitutional, because it restricted their free speech while allowing similar speech by others.
PBS reports that with SCOTUS upholding the entire law, the government also lost its exception.
